"Sketching is like dancing. You can turn your head off and just sort of dissolve into the now."
~ Molly Crabapple
I am always developing new intuitive art processes for myself in order to keep myself creating. Presently, I am in the midst of a very long mandala practice. At Mandala #200 or so I became bored with my creative process of intuitively drawing with pen and coloured markers.
Here is my latest intuitive mandala practice:
- I paint a free-form watercolour painting inside my mandala circle. This brings forth a mysterious "ground" for me to gaze upon.
- I soften up my gaze and I sense into what stands out for me.
- I intuitively block out shapes with a thick black marker.
- I detail the defined intuitive shapes with a finer black pen.
- I amplify some defined areas with coloured markers.
- I bask in the mystery of what I created.
I have created a 5-part mandala module in my year-long expressive art and writing course detailing five other intuitive mandala processes I have developed.
